The Texas Open is one of the oldest tournaments on the PGA Tour – with its first installment coming all the way back in 1922! This year the tournament is scheduled to take place between the 3rd and 6th of April, which is in line with its usual role of curtain raising for the Masters.
The Texas Open is always an event where anyone can win, and this year will be no different.
With elite players such as Hideki Matsuyama, Russell Henley and Collin Morikawa taking part in the prestigious tournament, spectators can expect plenty of thrill and excitement.
As the tournament approaches, the buzz extends in the betting world. Although official odds are yet to be released, many fans are already turning to top golf betting sites for market trends and potential value.

H2: Tournament Overview: What to Expect in 2025
As has become customary, the Valero Texas Open is set to be held at the TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) in San Antonio, Texas. Designed by PGA Tour legend Greg Norman with player consultant Sergio Garcia, the course departs from the modern style to a more natural look and feel – all the while, remaining within the dedicated fan experience ideals of the PGA Tour itself.
With a purse of $9.5 million, defending champion Akshay Bhatia (who won the event last year with a score of 63-70-68-67, 268) will no doubt be looking to defend the title once again in Texas.
Played within the 72 Hole Stroke Play format, it’s always a competitive affair in often trying conditions – and this doesn’t seem to be any different.
H2: Notable Players to Watch
As always, the Texas Open features a competitive field, with several notable players to watch. The 2025 edition of the Texas Open is no different, attracting a strong field of players. Here is a closer look at a few of them.
Hideki Matsuyama is currently ranked 6th in the world and will no doubt be looking to make a statement in Texas this year. Russell Henley already has three top ten finishes this season and will no doubt want to improve on his fourth-place finish at this event last year.
Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood and Patrick Cantlay, the current world number 4, 11 and 12 respectively have committed to playing at this year’s event – which is also likely to be used as a competitive slate ahead of the Masters.
Lucas Glover is a six-time PGA Tour winner, this is his seventh Texas Open, but the veteran has never finished inside the top three. Chris Kirk also holds six PGA Tour wins and plays his 12th Texas Open here. Likely using it ahead of the Masters (where he tied 16th), Kirk will surely want to add a win to his already impressive repertoire.
Denny McCarthy was last year’s runner-up, losing in a playoff to Akshay Bhatia and will no doubt want to make amends on that performance too.
H2: Past Winners
As we mentioned earlier in this article, the event is often used as a final curtain raiser ahead of the Masters. There have been some big names come through this Open and claim victory already. Namely, Arnold Palmer, Ben Crenshaw, Zach Johnson, Jordan Spieth and most recently Akshay Bhatia.
H2: Predictions
There is always a serious thrill around the Texas Open. As a precursor to the Masters event, the players and the fans are incredibly engaged in exciting golf and amazing build-up to a thrilling part of the season.
Insofar as predictions go, we think Denny McCarthy goes one better this year and finally finds a win at the TPC San Antonio (Oaks Course) event!
